Association Between Male Circumcision and Cervical Cancer Risk A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Analytical Studies.DOI 10.1200GO-25-00126

A new study looked at how male circumcision may affect the risk of cervical cancer in women. Researchers reviewed data from 19 studies to understand if there’s a link. They found that women with circumcised male partners had lower odds of developing cervical cancer and related conditions.

What did the study find?

Women whose partners were circumcised were less likely to get:
⦿ Cervical cancer
⦿ Cervical dysplasia (early abnormal changes in the cervix)
⦿ Carcinoma in situ (very early-stage cervical cancer)

The protection was small but real. Researchers think it may be due to lower transmission of the human papillomavirus (HPV), which causes most cervical cancers.

What this means for women

Cervical cancer is one of the top cancers affecting women. HPV is the main cause. Safe sex practices, regular screening, and HPV vaccination are the best ways to lower your risk. This study suggests that male circumcision may also reduce a woman’s chances of getting HPV and later cervical cancer.

What you can do

⦿ Get regular Pap smears and HPV tests.
⦿ Ask your doctor about the HPV vaccine.
⦿ Talk openly with your partner about sexual health and prevention.

This research adds to what we know about how HPV spreads and how we can lower cancer risk. It does not replace screening or vaccination, but it shows that male circumcision may be another piece in the prevention puzzle.
